October 2022: West Side, NYC:
At the 15th Anniversary of the New York City Wine & Food festival, NYC VIBE was invited to Grand Tasting at at Hudson River’s Pier 76 to meet the chefs, inventors and technicians making up the new world of growing, new menus, cooking and eating – with a focus on sustainability and made from plant products.
Ever heard of eggs made from beans rather from a chicken? We stopped off to try out the Just Eggs and meet the team behind creating what tastes like an egg but made from beans – all plant based.
Pierre Serrao, from the Ghetto Gastro, a Bronx-based creative and culinary collective, delivers a highly visual manifesto for living and eating to stimulate the mind, body, and heart, in a book that promotes Black excellence through recipes, art, and thought-provoking text.
Part cookbook. Part manifesto. Created with big Bronx energy, Black Power Kitchen combines 75 mostly plant-based, layered-with-flavor recipes with immersive storytelling, diverse voices, and striking images and photographs that celebrate Black food and Black culture, and inspire larger conversations about race, history, food inequality, and how eating well can be a pathway to personal freedom and self-empowerment.
The NYC Wine & Food Festival benefited God’s Love We deliver, which generates awareness for the host non-profit, God’s Love We Deliver, New York City’s leading provider of medically tailored meals and nutrition counseling for individuals living with severe illness.
