If you love musical theater - you will enjoy the new book, Hirschfeld’s Sondheim which is a deluxe oversized Hirschfeld poster book containing more than 50 drawings of Sondheim and his musicals, plays and films, including 25 full page images that can be easily removed and put right on a wall. At the unveiling event at the famous Alkonquin Hotel in the theater district, NYC VIBE caught up with David Leopold, Hirschfeld’s archivist and Creative Director of the Al Hirschfeld Foundation who told us how the shows and the drawings reflect the development of both artists.

All of Sondheim’s best–known works are included: West Side Story, Follies, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along, and Sunday in the Park with George - in 25 ready–to–frame, removable art prints. There are also previously unpublished works including a triple portrait of Sondheim, George Gershwin and Jerome Kern.

The guests talked about how Hirschfeld’s images capture the essence of the performances even better than the photographs of the shows. Hirschfeld’s drawings and Sondheim’s works are almost inextricably linked in the minds of theater lovers everywhere.

Ever since Sondheim’s death in November 2021, his work and legacy have been enjoying a resurgence of appreciation, with productions like the recent Broadway revivals of Merrily We Roll Along, Company, and Into the Woods, and this season’s Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends.

The innovative format of Hirschfeld’s Sondheim allows readers to see the works as never before. The twenty-five removable “posters” in this book also include extensive commentary that serves as an informative and well–presented coffee table book, making it a purchase with both collector’s appeal and practical use.

Outside the St. James Theatre, Tony® and Emmy® Winner Kristin Chenoweth joined Academy Award® winner F. Murray Abraham to introduce the complete cast for the highly anticipated Broadway premiere of The Queen of Versailles. Directed by Tony Award® winner Michael Arden with music and lyrics by Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Olivier Award® nominee Lindsey Ferrentino, The Queen of Versailles will begin performances on Wednesday, October 8, with an opening night set for Sunday, November 9.

From computer engineer to Mrs. Florida to billionairess, Jackie Siegel saw herself as the embodiment of the American Dream. As the wife of David "The Timeshare King" Siegel and mother of their eight children, they invited America to visit their most grandiose venture yet:

With epic proportions of Shakespearean tragedy, the film follows two unique characters, whose rags-to-riches success stories reveal the innate virtues and flaws of the American Dream.

It's considered to be the one of the most popular and celebrity-studded events of the Hamptons’ summer calendar - the East Hampton Library’s Annual Authors Night fundraiser featured 100 authors across all genres.

With this sad update - after the benefit night, Robert Wilson passed away - The artist, theater and opera director, architect, set and lighting designer, visual artist, and founder of The Watermill Center.

NYC VIBE was told that Robert Wilson died peacefully today at the age of 83, after a brief but acute illness.

Sunday, June 1, 2025, Manhattan, NY – The 2025 Drama Desk Awards at NYU Skirball Center offered a sneak peek into who might be taking home a Tony. The Drama Desk Awards are unique, bringing together Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway productions to compete head-to-head, with all performance categories being gender-free. Voted on by theater critics, journalists, editors, and publishers, these awards celebrate every facet of New York’s vibrant professional theater scene.

Highlights of the Night:

Kara Young made history, winning Outstanding Featured Performance in a Play for Purpose. She's now the first Black performer, and only the second person ever, to receive four consecutive Tony nominations! Young shared her passion for telling stories that spark conversation, a theme central to Purpose, a powerful three-hour drama directed by Phylicia Rashad about a prominent Black family deeply rooted in the American civil rights movement.
