October 2025 - The Theater District, NYC: As the Broadway community is at the center of a divided nation - federal funds being eliminated and cut in many cases and costs rising each year to produce first rate productions - the Drama League made it quite clear at its annual benefit gala in the theater district the message to the aspiring next generation of stage performers is to work hard, stay focused and stay on the path to follow your dreams - as the theater needs you now more than ever. The benefit presented a spirit of uplifting and amplifying the New York theater community - Broadway stars, alumni artists, directors and producers all gathering together. NYC VIBE caught up with the talented and motivated theatrical producer Lia Vollack who was being honored by her peers on this night. September 2025 - Upper East Side, Manhattan: Mayor Eric Adams and Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Pat Swinney Kaufman hosted the first-ever “Made in NY” Awards Ceremony for Theatre and Live Performance, celebrating individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the theatre and live performance industry in New York City. The inaugural ceremony, at Gracie Mansion, honored Tony Award® winning actor, producer and co-founder of the Black Theatre United LaChanze LaChanze is a Tony-winning actor, four time Tony-winning producer and advocate with nearly 40 years of experience on Broadway. This season she also made her directorial debut with Wine in the Wilderness at Classic Stage Company. LaChanze told Mike Leventhal that she launched her own production company last year , where she discovers, develops and delivers groundbreaking Broadway and commercial entertainment projects. NYC VIBE first met up with Lachanze when she founded Black Theatre United, an advocacy organization dedicated to protecting Black bodies, Black talent, and Black lives on and off our stages. The husband and wife team are a force on the stage…Patrician Delgado is a first-generation Cuban American born in Miami, Florida. She was a principal dancer with the Miami City Ballet where she worked for 20 years and a member of the dance faculty at The Juilliard School. Justin Peck is a director, choreographer, filmmaker, and dancer based in New York City. He is the Resident Choreographer of the New York City Ballet, and only the second person in the institution’s 75-year history to hold this title. He has developed and created over 50 dance and theater works that have been presented on stages around the world, including Lincoln Center, the Palais Garnier, Sydney Opera House, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Broadway. All of Sondheim’s best–known works are included: West Side Story, Follies, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along, and Sunday in the Park with George - in 25 ready–to–frame, removable art prints. There are also previously unpublished works including a triple portrait of Sondheim, George Gershwin and Jerome Kern. The guests talked about how Hirschfeld’s images capture the essence of the performances even better than the photographs of the shows. Hirschfeld’s drawings and Sondheim’s works are almost inextricably linked in the minds of theater lovers everywhere. Ever since Sondheim’s death in November 2021, his work and legacy have been enjoying a resurgence of appreciation, with productions like the recent Broadway revivals of Merrily We Roll Along, Company, and Into the Woods, and this season’s Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends. The innovative format of Hirschfeld’s Sondheim allows readers to see the works as never before.
